I love books that educate while they entertain & Emily's Lights did not disappoint!! The way that the author brought everything to life with her descriptions will have all readers, both children & adults, paying far more attention to the beautiful world around them!! I can't wait for Katie's Gardens!!!
What a delightful book that captures the energy and wonder of a child exploring the world around her. I especially love that it gives my children a glimpse into a place where many of our friends live...Alaska! I highly recommend this book for any little person in your life!
I live in Southeast Alaska and I really enjoy all the Alaska scenery and events in this book. There are terrific facts, fun for locals and tourists. This book should be in print and sold to the tourists. They would love to take it back home to show to kids and families. My only criticism is on the lighthouse page -- that is not a kayak, that is a row boat.
Overall...excellent work. I am proud to know you!
As a Southeast Alaska transplant, it is always fun to find a book that can showcase the unique features of where I live to my family back East. I love her choice of light subjects and her choice of words for this children's book, how she teaches new language while taking the reader on an adventure. Ever bouncing between Southeast Alaska and other parts of the country for her comparisons, the book will appeal to kids (and parents) from all over. Great job and nice illustrations. Never thought of playing kick the can with headlamps...
This is a charming book. It has humor, joy, poignancy and yes, some interesting information. I must admit that I live in Ketchikan and know Rhonda Bolling, but I feel that she has captured the essence of our community as well as shedding light (no pun intended) on some wildlife and traditions from other parts of the country. This book is a very nice read for any child or the adults who might be reading to their children.
